We set up and attended every single tour in person. I walked into my local Chase branch and tried to explain the concept of “trust accounting” to a business banker. They looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. It was an eye-opener. Suddenly, I was \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Charlie in the Chocolate Factory\u003C\u002Fstrong>. All the vendors might as well have been Oompa-Loompas. I was surrounded by shiny solutions to problems I didn&#39;t even know I had yet.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">I was in a chocolate fueled daze.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">And we overindulged.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">\u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Buildium\u003C\u002Fstrong> was the glowing chocolate waterfall we just had to drink from. \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">APM\u003C\u002Fstrong> was the giant, irresistible gumdrop. We piled our cart high.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">We added \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">PropertyMeld\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Enterprise Bank &amp; Trust\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">zInspector\u003C\u002Fstrong>, and \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Leadsimple\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Then we kept going: \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Second Nature\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Steadily\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Blanket\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">RentCast\u003C\u002Fstrong>, and \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Profit Coach\u003C\u002Fstrong>. We hired our first remote team member through \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">Anequim\u003C\u002Fstrong> (and eventually added four more).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">We bought \u003Cem class=\"italic\">everything\u003C\u002Fem>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"the-golden-ticket-or-golden-handcuffs\" class=\"text-2xl md:text-3xl font-semibold text-dark-blue mb-4 mt-6 leading-tight\">\u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">The Golden Ticket or Golden Handcuffs?\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">To be clear: many of those tools were incredible. I&#39;d still use them today. The problem wasn&#39;t the software itself.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">The problem was twofold:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Col class=\"list-decimal pl-6 mb-6 space-y-2\">\n\u003Cli class=\"mb-2 leading-relaxed text-primary text-lg\">I didn&#39;t know \u003Cem class=\"italic\">\u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">when\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fem> I should actually buy them based on my stage of growth.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli class=\"mb-2 leading-relaxed text-primary text-lg\">I didn&#39;t realize that once you choose a core Property Management System (PMS), you are essentially \u003Cstrong class=\"font-semibold\">locked in\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Fol>\n\u003Cp class=\"mb-4 text-primary leading-relaxed text-lg\">In hindsight?
